Best Indo-Chinese restaurant in Maryland hands up or down!!!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
If you are obsessed with Indo-Chinese this is the place for you unlike many pretenders that are out there in Maryland. This can easily be catapulted into the coterie of Nanking, NJ and Mughal Express,NJ and Ming, NJ (in its hey days) or even better when it comes to taste and authenticity per Indian standards.

This does it for me - the Chefs were sent to India for special training in Tangda (Kolkatta)/Hakka style and they don't disappoint you either.

User Reviews

Good Points - Most authentic Indo-Chinese cuisine in Maryland
- Hakka Noodles and Chicken Machurian out of top draw
- Rare dishes such as Sizzlers and American Chopseuy flash out from their menu
- Sweet corn soup served in great quantity was the ultimate palate-pleaser
- Friendly Staff
- Happening ambience with College Park University Kids dotting the Varsity Lounge which features a bar/lounge
- Prompt service
- Established reputation - headed by owners of Asian Fusion by Masala Country, VA
- Chefs mentored and trained in India to provide the best and most delicious Indo-chinese you will ever find.
Bad Points -Location was hard to spot, sits in the ground floor of Clarion Hotel
-Veg Hakka Noodles quantity appeared to be on the lower side
-Asian Fusion section needs to be spruced up.
Favorite Dish Chicken Machurian, Chilli Chicken, Veg Hakka Noodles, Sweet Corn Soup

Class apart from other HotBreads

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
If you are looking for a dining experience with good ambience and need a one-stop shop for a variety of Indian cuisine this is a great place to dig. Placed in a shopping complex laced with other Indian and Afghani cuisines, this offers a compelling reason to check out even more.

User Reviews

Good Points - This is a one-stop shop to sizzle your appetite with delicious desi tummyticklers.
- Wide variety of cuisines - surprised to see they have added Chinese cuisine. Chicken chilis were good.
- They also offer kebab platters which I haven't seen at other HotBread locations.
- Chicken Tikka Masala was better than some of the other places.
- They prepare their own cakes which some of the other hot breads dont for e.g. the one in Chantilly, VA order their cakes as opposed to preparing on their own. So you lose on the freshness.
- Much much better dining experience, spacious and pleasing interiors
Bad Points - Hariyali Kebabs were little dry and the flesh was not tender although they did replace with some other order.
- Vada paavs were ok. The vadas could have been a little better
- Service was on the poorer side. Were made to wait a while before our order came
- Mango Lassi was served at room temperature
Favorite Dish Chicken Chilli

Elegant Decor, Taste missing authenticity

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
This place claim to fame could be attributed to the plush settings that most other Indian restaurants will be envious of. With decent waitstaff providing good service, this facility cannot be ignored even at the expense of authenticity that has infamously deserted this dining joint. For those not familiar with the authentic Indian taste, the food should taste ok, notwithstanding the moderation that are being served, but fanatic Indian food critics purely on merit of food may be best advised to pass.

User Reviews

Good Points > Urban decor serves as a perfect backdrop for quiet romantic dinner
> Refreshing exterior settings overlooking a blooming garden and fountain are a big hit in summer and fall
> Fireplace in winter adds to the coziness you may be looking for.
> Quality of service has been mostly satisfying except on few occasions
Bad Points > Food quality appears to have deteriorated from acceptable at best to passable at worst.
> Currently lacks authenticity with missing aromas of spices, Indian cuisine is famous for, probably staged to meet native white bred taste
> Expensive food with lack of Indian character leaves a lot to be desired

The best chicken lollipops you will ever find. Hands down!!!

0 of 1 people found the following review helpful
If you are a big connoisseur of authentic Indian Chinese that you may have relished while growing up in India, you may be disappointed in terms of authenticity, but this still probably could be your best Indo-Chinese bet in Maryland.

User Reviews

Good Points 1. As the name suggests, this restaurant is one of the very few that has Indo-chinese fusion on their menu. Although it still does not rack up well to the likes of Mughal Express and Nanking in NJ.
2. I liked the Chilli Chicken and Chilli Paneer from their Indian-Chinese menu.
3. THE BEST CHICKEN LOLLIPOPS YOU WILL EVER FIND. HANDS DOWN
4. The North Indian dishes such as Butter Chicken is definitely worth a try.
5. You can also try their combo platter of kebabs for appetizers.
6. Location is in one of the better locations in Maryland which is Columbia
7. Ample free parking space in front of the restaurant.
Bad Points 1. Most expensive dine-out I have ever come across in Maryland which does not justify the quantity (limited) or the fine-dining experience.
2. Taste used to be reasonably authentic till a few years ago, but the quality has deteriorated since.
3. Quantity of the food being served was not as good as some of its competitors such as "House of India".

Nice Indian restaurant in Columbia

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
My reviews above are limited to the dishes I tried when I visited the place this weekend. I will be in a position to give more complete reviews once I have made a few more trips to the restaurant and try their other exotic dishes. But this one is high on my list, and the fact that it has been voted 3 years as the best Indian restaurant is saying something. Check out the pictures of this restaurant from our recent dine in.

User Reviews

Good Points - Loaded Menu with some of the most exquisite dishes you will ever find in an Indian restaurant in Maryland.
- Fish Angar stands out as one of the best hors d'oeuvres on their menu.
- They serve you vegetable pakoras (fritters made of cauliflower, onions, potatos etc) free of charge which was a welcome change from most Indian restaurants.
- Generous Servings extend into packed boxes for next day meals.
- Free parking right infront of the restaurant
- Their service was impressive, as the waiters were around for anything you needed
- Voted Best Indian restaurant for 3 yrs in Howard County, MD which could be their biggest USP.
Bad Points - Chicken Tikka Masala did not have tender chicken pieces and most Indian aficionados looking for authentic Indian flavor may be disappointed.
- Little pricey but the generous quantity offsets some of the extra cash they charge.

A posh assortment of dance floor, bar and tasty BITES!!!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
An authentic Zaikedar (flavor) and truly Swaadisht (palatable) Indian cuisine. Two Thumbs Up!!!!

User Reviews

Good Points 1. Groove on the dance floor for some hip-gyrating bollywood music that will slingshot you into a psychedelic experience
2. Fully loaded bar that is brimming with tongue-tickling cocktails, few prominent ones are Sex in Goa, Pink Temptation, Mangotini. An amazing repertoire of sizzling wine collection packs the punch big time
3. Try out their deliriously explosive appetizers that is unique at Leela Lounge - Corn palak (spinach) kabobs, chicken leelapops, Hari Mirch Jhinga (shrimp) and the newly added Kabob platters to name a few
4. Extremely delicious entrees that will make your tummies feel privileged to be in august company - Chowringhee Chicken (chicken in a wok peppered with soy sauce, chilli sauce sauteed in ginger and garlic and served with rice or noodles), the classic Murgh Tikka Masala, Lukhnawee Ghosht (Lambs from Lucknow), Goan Jhinga (Goa style shirmps), and a few more expense choices such as Zaikedar Chanpen (Lamb roasted Lambs).
5. The ornately brocaded ambience is one to cherish in your menmonic confines. This one is a masterpiece.
6. You can book their dance floor for special occasions such as on New Yrs eve etc.
Bad Points 1. Once a frugal delight couple of yrs ago is now a spendthrift's fantasy, the menus have been tagged at higher premiums.
2. The location is not very conducive for public parking. If you are lucky you may find parking on the street, else you will have to park in a paid parking spot.
Favorite Dish Chicken Leelapops, Chowringhee Chicken

From fame to obscurity

You can visit but dont expect too much especially now.

User Reviews

Good Points 1. Fine dining with decent ambience. Nestled right next to Mughal, from the same ownership.
2. Good Location, right on Oak tree road.
3. Food quality not the greatest but acceptable by all means.
Bad Points 1. Used to be a really good Indian Chinese restaurant few yrs back. Its a classic case of fame going to your head. Food quality has suffered and thus pales in comparison to the likes of Nanking, Chopsticks etc
2. Pricey Menu seems to be a bit of a letdown as well.
Favorite Dish Chicken Manchurian

Standout Indian Bakery and Snacks Parlor - An absolute classic!!!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
The celebrity cakes carry a lusciously light juicy texture that will transport your appetite into a rapturous glee. An absolute cracker of a bakery and snacks parlor.

User Reviews

Good Points 1. Hotbreads has one of the best bakeries you will ever find. Reason, their cakes are made Indian style. The cream is whipped thin and the surface itself is juicy. Pineapple and Blackforest are top of the line.
2.Try out their mango Tiramasu that will spell sweetening magic in your mouth.
3. This is a fast food classic with amazing Vada Paavs and Paav bhajis. Apparently people turn up in huge numbers just to buy their paavs (buns) which is reminiscent of the buns we find in India. Not to forget those street side vada paavs in Pune that we so thankfully gobbled back in my engineering days.
4. Try out their veggie/chicken puffs and croissants which tastes deliciously similar to the ones we have eaten back home.
5. Hotbreads serve some of the best wine and fruit cakes that you can buy for regular consumption.
6. And yes the cookies (Nankhatais) are just as tempting with a touch of "Jai Ho" that you guys will love it.
Bad Points 1. The real-estate is a little squeezed for dine ins, more ideal for takeouts.
Favorite Dish Pineapple and BlackForest Pastries

Perhaps the best in NYC

You cannot go wrong with this option. If you plan to visit NYC, check this one out.

User Reviews

Good Points - Chicken Haryali Kebab and Shami Kebabs - If you want a mouth melting experience, these appetizers will rule your stomachs. Papdii Chaat another gratifying appetizer to try out
- Daal Bukhara (lentils) is trademark recipe that defines this restaurant's authenticity. You will not find a better daal anywhere else.
- Goat Meat dishes are exceptionally authentic.Very rare to find them served in an upscale Indian restaurant. They mostly serve lamb. This is out of the world stuff.
-Butter Chicken/Chicken Tikka Masala is right up there as well.
- And if you are looking for some desserts, none better than rasmalai and kheer (pudding).
Bad Points Slightly smaller in capacity for extremely large gatherings.
Parking an issue. Need to pay big bucks

THIS RESTAURANT RECENTLY WENT OUT OF BUSINESS - YOU KNOW WHY

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
On a nicest day of the summer so far, bunch of my colleagues decided to feast on an Indian buffet. Although I had not heard good reviews about this restaurant, I decided to join them in their excitement. The long walk from Pratt Street to FellsPoint was glazed with posh restaurants and dotted with bustling shops. The walk perimetered along the harbor was relaxed while the mood in some frenzied high.

When we came in sniffing distance of the restaurant, something did not seem right. The building did not have the hoarding mounted on top that used to say "Mehak". There were no tables parked outside and the OPEN sign was missing. When we arrived there, we peeked inside and everything was gone. Apparently they went out of business recently. It was a disappointing end to our journey but we found solace in a nearby restaurant called Waterfront.

User Reviews

Good Points Was close by the harbor. Awesome location to be dining at.
Bad Points CLOSED. Grapevine has it that the food was terrible.
